Barberá returning to Spain for operation
The Mapfre Aspar rider was released from hospital in Japan this morning (Tuesday) and will undergo surgery on his right collarbone in Barcelona on Wednesday.
After spending Sunday and Monday under observation in the intensive care unit of the Dokkyo University Hospital in Utsunomiya in Japan, Héctor Barberá this morning (Tuesday) received the all-clear to leave the unit and return to Spain.
Barberá suffered a displaced fracture of the right collarbone, strong bruising to the left lumbar region and a blow to the head in a second lap crash in Sunday’s Grand Prix of Japan at Motegi.
The 24 year-old Spaniard was kept under observation at the hospital as a precautionary measure due to the loss of consciousness he experienced as a result of the crash, but has now been cleared to fly back to Spain.
On Wednesday Barberá will be operated on by Dr. Xavier Mir at the Clínica USP Dexeus in Barcelona, in a procedure to correct the fractured collarbone to allow it to heal correctly.
