Kent aiming for top ten results in rookie year

Kent on 2011 debut season
Thursday, 17 February 2011

The young British talent, a product of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, is highly motivated as he prepares for his full 125cc World Championship debut season in 2011.

Danny Kent is one of four Brits who will be competing in the 125cc World Championship this season, and the 17 year-old is relishing the opportunity he has been presented with to show his full potential with the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport team in 2011.

Kent’s talent is undoubted, as was shown with his runner-up spot in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2010 having fought eventual winner Jake Gagne all the way to the final race for the title. Added to that were five rides for the Lambretta team towards the end of the 2010 World Championship, in which Kent impressed with his ability to extract the most out of a bike that riders before him had struggled to get to grips with.

For his full debut in 2011 Kent will be at the helm of an Aprilia as he competes for the renowned Ajo team structure, and it is a prospect that excites him greatly.

“It’ll be my first full year in the World Championship so I really don’t know what to expect, but if I can finish in the top ten consistently then I’ll be really happy,” Kent told motogp.com in the attached interview.

“I did the last five rounds of last season with the Lambretta which everybody knows is a bit under-powered in comparison with all the Aprilias. Also in the last round (at Valencia) I managed to catch up to tenth position, so now that I’m on an Aprilia let’s see what I can do!”

Kent, who is currently at the Estoril Test which concludes today (Thursday) but which has so far been affected by poor weather, got his first taste of the Aprilia he will ride at the three-day meet at Valencia last week.

“The Test didn’t go too badly to be honest,” he evaluated. “It was my first weekend on an Aprilia so I didn’t really know what to expect. I had a few offs, but I think that’s down to me rushing it a little bit. I think I just need to focus a little bit more and be a bit calmer and take it from there.”
