Binder to step in for Salom at Indianapolis
The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup rider will make his World Championship debut this weekend as he substitutes on the RW Racing team for the injured Spaniard.
Sixteen year-old South African rider Brad Binder will make his World Championship debut this weekend in the 125 category at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.
Binder, currently competing in the 2011 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in which he lies sixth in the standings, will ride in place of the injured Luis Salom, who has not recovered from right-hand fractures suffered at Brno and which ruled the Spaniard out of the race.
“It will be Brad’s debut so there will be no pressure at all,” said RW Racing GP team owner Roelof Waninge. “Dorna and IRTA think it’s the right time for Brad to get some Grand Prix experience and we are happy to help him with that. Brad himself is delighted to get this opportunity and wants to learn as much as possible.”
Binder will travel to Indianapolis with his father on Wednesday to meet up with the team, who expect to welcome Salom back at the Misano round which follows immediately after Indianapolis.
