Day of Champions auction raises incredible €71,783
The famous Day of Champions MotoGP auction capped an amazing day at Silverstone for Riders for Heath. The auction raised €71,783 in just four hours, bringing the total amount raised at Day of Champions to €218,882.
Thousands of fans enjoyed the show presented by Riders for Heath’s co-founder Randy Mamola, Toby Moody, Jules Ryder, Matt Roberts, Gavin Emmett and Alex Hofmann. In total, 88 items were sold to raise money for the lifesaving work of Riders for Health – the official charity of MotoGP.
Colin Edwards got the auction off to a great start selling a set of leathers for €3,700. Boots proved to be popular items, with pairs from Hector Barbara, Ben Spies, Jorge Lorenzo, Marco Simoncelli, Karel Abraham, Toni Elias, Hiroshi Aoyama and Cal Crutchlow making a combined total of €4,400.
The presence of Valentino Rossi greatly increased the number of bidders. The most popular item among those presented by Rossi was the opportunity for the winner to pose for a photo with Valentino which will then be made into a painting. This item has yielded more than €5,000 while the total proceeds from the Italian rider was over €15,000.
Other unique memorabilia and once-in-a-lifetime experiences auctioned by the MotoGP riders included exclusive MotoGP Grid passes, Suzuki MotoGP’s VIP package featuring a lap of Silverstone with Alvaro Bautista on his scooter, an opportunity to shadow MotoGP photographer Andrew Northcott track side, an incredible piece of artwork by Alex Chailan and David Piolé of all of the 2011 MotoGP riders, and a weekend’s hospitality with Monster at the Aragon MotoGP including a Randy Mamola guided tour of the paddock and pit-boxes which raised €4,300, making it one of the most popular items on the day.
