Márquez team confirms Valencia GP withdrawal
Moto2™ is powered byThe Spanish rider will not compete in this weekend’s Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana, leaving Stefan Bradl’s proclamation as 2011 Moto2 World Champion a formality to be confirmed at the end of Saturday’s qualifying session.
Marc Márquez has waited until the last moment to see if there was any possibility he could compete in Sunday’s race and therefore maintain his challenge for the Moto2 title, but he has been unable to recover in time from his vision problems which were a result of the crash he had on the Friday morning of the Malaysian GP.
Márquez, who has waited until the very last moment for any improvement in his vision, will not ride in today’s (Saturday) sessions, nor Sunday’s race, meaning the Moto2 title is now decided in favour of German rider Stefan Bradl – against whom Márquez has had an intense battle in the second half of the 2011 season.
Marc is therefore runner-up in the Championship in his debut campaign in the intermediate category, having achieved a number of highlights in his first season in Moto2 which have included seven victories, 11 podiums, seven poles, 10 front-row starts and two fastest race laps.
