Fresh off a win at the Assen TT, Spanish star Marc Márquez set the pace for the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM weekend, putting in the fastest time of the morning practice in front of Championship leader Stefan Bradl and Alex de Angelis.

Second place Championship point sitter Márquez of Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol lead the first practice for the Moto2 class Friday morning, setting a time of 1’53.701. He was 0.319s ahead of Viessmann Kiefer Racing’s Stefan Bradl, who leads the Championship by 27 points following a crash at Assen that narrowed his advantage in front of the rest of the field substantially.

San Marinese Alex de Angelis set a time 0.264s behind Bradl’s, with Aleix Espargaró (Pons HP 40), who is on form at the Tuscan circuit, landing fourth fastest in the field with a time of 1’54.432. The quickest two Italians in the pack were Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) running fifth in the session and Andrea Iannone (Speed Master), who won the Moto2 race here last year from pole position in sixth.

Rounding out the top ten were Swiss riders Dominique Aegerter (Technomag-CIP) and Randy Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) in seventh and eighth, Mike di Meglio (Tech 3 Racing) ninth and Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) tenth.

Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) crashed out of the practice session in turn 3.
