Márquez leads Moto2 final free practice

The Moto2 class began the final free practice session on a wet but slowly drying track, with 18 year old Márquez taking the lead at the halfway point aboard his Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol machine. Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) took over the lead with ten minutes remaining, then with track conditions improving, Randy Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) stepped into the top spot in the final 3 minutes.

Márquez, who finished the first day of practice in sixth position, made a final push on the last lap to steal the top spot from the Swiss rider with a time 2'09.067. Krummenacher’s time of 2'09.097 remained second fastest, 0.030s down on the Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol rider.

Provisional pole man Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) sat out the beginning of the session, entering just ahead of the halfway point to finish the meet third fastest with a time of 2'09.623, six and a half seconds slower than his leading time of the weekend so far. Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag-CIP) despite an early off track excursion followed the Championship leader in fourth. The Turkish rider’s team mate Dominique Aegerter set the fifth quickest time.

Sixth fastest of the outing was Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2), who was third in Friday’s line up, followed by American Avintia-STX Kenny Noyes making his presence known with seventh. Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) and Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) were eighth and ninth, with Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) completing the leading ten.

Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) and Jordi Torres (Mapfre Aspar) both crashed out of the session.
