Yuki Takahashi grabbed the top spot in the final practice session before qualifying at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, surpassing the best lap set by Stefan Bradl who dominated much of the session. Mapfre Aspar’s Julián Simón posted third quickest in the field.

Gresini Racing’s Yuki Takahashi lap of 1’25.142 was the fastest of the weekend thus far in the Moto2 field, launching the Japanese rider the top spot in FP3. The 27 year old was 0.107s faster than Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing), who crashed out of the lead in the final 21 minutes of the heat, but remounted to climb back to the top until Takahashi’s last lap exceeded the best time set by the German.

Simón set a remarkable third quickest of the session, the Sachsenring weekend being the comeback round for the Spaniard after recuperating from broken leg since early June, with a time of 1'25.408, ahead of Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) who posted a 1'25.479, and Aleix Espargaró (Pons HP 40) who lead the field at the halfway point, finally finished fifth with a 1’25.540.

Friday’s fastest Moto2 rider, Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2), was sixth posting a time of 1’25.589, with Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) seventh, Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2) eighth and Randy Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) ninth. Pol Espargaró (HP Tuenti Speed Up), who had climbed as high as second in the timings, finished the session in tenth.

The competition was tight in the field of 37 riders, all pushing for a fast time in the ideal weather conditions. Some too far, with no less than five riders running off track in turn 1 and Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha-SAG) crashing in turn 7.
