Smith heads West in damp warm up
Moto2™ is powered byBradley Smith (Tech 3) led the twenty minute session ahead of this afternoon’s bwin Grande Prémio de Portugal ahead of Anthony West (MZ Racing) and Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing).
Moto2 will kick start the action, with the first race of the day, hence a change in the schedule with the intermediate class taking to the track first, for the warm-up. Under a mix of sunshine and clouds, the session was run in damp conditions after overnight rain. The quickest lap time of 1’53:622 set by the young British rider was 12 seconds slower than Stefan Bradl’s (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) pole position time from qualifying.
The Tech 3 rider who will start the race from 15th, was just over one tenth quicker than West and nearly four tenths faster than fellow Brit’, Redding. The Marc VDS Racing rider will head the fourth row of the grid later today starting from 13th.
Championship leader Andrea Iannone (Speed Master) was fourth, in front of Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol), Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) and Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2). In eighth place was Xavier Simeon (Tech 3 B) and completing the top ten were Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) and Simone Corsi (Ioda Racing Project). Pole sitter Bradl was 12th fastest.
Kenny Noyes (Avintia-STX) suffered a highside but appeared uninjured. Steven Odendaal (MS Racing) had a trip to the gravel during the warm up.
