Pole sitter Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) was also fastest in the damp MotoGP warm up at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya. The Ducati team riders were second and third quickest, with Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) second in the timings followed by team mate Nicky Hayden.

Marco Simoncelli set the best time in the final warm up at Catalunya on Sunday, as damp conditions prevailed at the circuit and slowed the warm up times. The Italian, who will start from pole for the first time in the premier class, posted a best time of 1’55.292 on the wet surface.

The Ducati Team riders faired well in the morning warm up, with Valentino Rossi second fastest in the session and close behind the leading Italian with a time of 1’55.409. Nicky Hayden was third quickest, following his team mate Valentino by 0.534s. The Ducati duo will start on the grid in seventh and eighth positions, respectively.

Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) was fifth in warm up, just 0.018s behind Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso who posted a time of 1’56.261. Ben Spies, who just missed out on a front-row start in qualifying, was eighth in the timings. Spies will start the race in fourth, just ahead of Dovizioso.

Second place qualifier Casey Stoner was sixth fastest in the warm up, trailing Simoncelli by 0.830s. Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) followed the Australian by 0.265s in seventh fastest. Last year’s race winner Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing), who will start the race in third behind Stoner, was 14th in warm up, his fastest time posting at 1’59.068.

Completing the top ten in the session were Randy de Puniet (Pramac Racing) in ninth fastest followed by Héctor Barberá (Mapfre Aspar).

Neither Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) nor Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) were on track after confirmation that their respective injuries would prevent them from lining up on the grid for the race.
