Oliveira full of ambition as final Test approaches

Tuesday, 1 March 2011

The young Portuguese talent has been impressive in pre-season so far, and as he prepares for the final Test at Jerez stated his aims for the meeting and the season.

After a very productive first Test at Valencia and a weather-affected but still useful meeting at Estoril, Miguel Oliveira will aim to round off his pre-season preparations ahead of his debut 125cc World Championship campaign with another step forward at Jerez.

Having matched title favourite Nico Terol for pace at Valencia the 2010 Spanish Championship runner-up evaluated the last Test on his home track before looking ahead to Jerez, which commences on Friday.

“The test wasn’t easy because we weren’t able to continue working as we did in Valencia due to the weather, and we only completed 68 laps across all three days, but given the circumstances I think on the balance of things it was positive,” said Oliveira, who rides for Andalucia Cajasol in 2011. “We were fastest in the wet and on the final day, when the track was cold, we achieved the best time of the entire Test with a 1’48.9.”

He continued: “The strategy at Jerez will be more focused on resistance and not so much on times. I think we’ll do a race simulation, looking to get into a racing rhythm. We’ll try tyres for longer runs and we’ll also work with worn tyres.”

Looking ahead to the start of the season in less than three weeks, Oliveira concluded: “It’s early to talk about the Championship, especially as it’s my first season, but I think it’s realistic to be thinking about a place inside the top ten.”
