Danilo Petrucci to debut in MotoGP with Ioda Racing

Thursday, 5 January 2012

The 21 year old Italian steps into the MotoGP World Championship with Ioda Racing aboard a CRT bike.

2011 Italian 1000 Superstock champion and runner-up World 1000 Superstock champion Danilo Petrucci will ride a prototype CRT machine for the Italian Ioda Racing team for his first World Championship experience.

The Giampiero Sacchi led outfit plans to expand from Moto2 into the premier class with an Aprilia powered CRT motorcycle. The team is working to be prepared for the first track tests ahead of what will be their debut in the MotoGP class.

"It's a very attractive project and an exceptional challenge," Sacchi explained, "but it’s also forcing us to make a tremendous race against the clock. I hope we’re ready to test the bike the beginning of February, at least to see exactly where we are."

The team already is in advanced stages of preparation for the new Moto3 class. Sacchi and a good portion the Ioda Racing team were at the Italian circuit of Magione in Perugia, central Italy, where their prototype Moto3 hit the track for the first time. The bike was ridden by test rider Mirko Giansanti alongside young riders Luigi Morciano and Alessandro Tonucci, who are signed up to participate this season in the new World Championship category.
