motogp.com’s special section commemorating the retired 125cc class continues with the 1997 season, with some of the most significant races in the history of the class. After one win his first season, Rossi’s potential was unleashed, taking him to the top step of the podium 11 times.

It is the first season of record breaking for Rossi, as the Italian scored a total of 321 points and won his first title ahead of Ueda, Manako and Sakata. We look at the race contested in Sentul, Indonesia, where Rossi won his eleventh race of the season and Jorge Martinez took third, the last podium of his riding career.
