Remembering the 125 class: 1998

motogp.com recalls the most memorable and exciting races of the last 20 years in the historical 125cc category.

motogp.com’s special section commemorating the retired 125cc class continues with the 1998 season, one of the most competitive of the decade with three riders scoring over 200 points each: Sakata won another title with compatriot Tomomi Manako and a young Marco Melandri following in the standings.

We review the penultimate round of the season at Catalunya. Manako triumphed over Azuma Giansanti in one of the tightest battles ever seen, with the top 15 riders finishing within 5.025 seconds of each other.
