Remembering the 125 class: 2000

motogp.com recalls the most memorable and exciting races of the last 20 years in the historical 125cc category.

motogp.com’s special section commemorating the retired 125cc class continues with the 2000 season. Roberto Locatelli aboard an Aprilia was the main protagonist of the 2000 campaign, taking the crown with five victories over Youichi Ui and reigning World Champion, Emilio Alzamora.

Despite Locatelli starting from pole position, the battle for the win was between Masao Azuma aboard a Honda and Simone Sanna at the controls of an Aprilia. The Italian triumphed over the Japanese rider by just 0.034s on the last lap of an incredibly hard fought race.
