Limited track time for Aspar two

Limited track time for Aspar two

Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaró were both restricted in how many laps they were able to put in on Saturday at Jerez.

After an intense first day of testing at Jerez yesterday, today (Saturday) provided a stark contrast as dark skies, high winds and intermittent rain prevented the teams and riders from making any meaningful progress. In fact, the unmistakable growl of MotoGP™ machinery was not heard until the afternoon when the majority of riders took the opportunity to test their wet settings but little else.

This was the first opportunity the Power Electronics Aspar riders have had to test their ART machines on a wet track and with just 16 laps between them in total their work was largely limited to the garage. Randy and Aleix had an extensive programme planned but the weather put paid to that and limited them to just a few wet laps. They took the opportunity to try some different engine mappings and traction control settings with positive results.

Randy de Puniet:
“Today wasn't very productive, we managed to get a few wet laps in but little else. I am happy because I felt comfortable in the wet and the lap time was good. We decided to stop after eight laps because the track conditions were not good and there was no point taking risks. If we get better weather tomorrow we will keep working on suspension and electronic settings, with some tyre tests too, to try and push harder.”

Aleix Espargaró:
“Track conditions were poor today and we did most of our work in the garage. This was our first chance to test this bike in the wet and it was a good opportunity to test some different maps. Randy tried them first and then me. The traction control system seems to work well in the wet. We also set the second bike up but we were limited to just eight laps in total so hopefully we get better conditions tomorrow."
