Márquez: "Jerez will be another tough and important GP"

The Spanish rider spoke at the launch of a new personal sponsorship with Lotus, who have produced a new collection of watches inspired by Márquez.

Victory in the opening round of the 2012 Moto2™ World Championship also placed Marc Márquez atop of the early standings, and as the young Spaniard prepares for the second round at Jerez he spoke at the launch of a new personal sponsorship with Lotus on Thursday.

Last year's Moto2 runner-up has inspired a new collection of watches by Lotus, which carry a motorcycling theme, and Márquez will bear the brand's logo on his helmet for the remainder of the season after a three-year deal was confirmed.

Márquez also reviewed his start to the season at the event in Barcelona, as well as his expectations ahead of the back-to-back rounds at Jerez and Estoril.

“The win in Qatar was important, it gave the whole team a confidence boost and we enjoyed it a lot, but we've already turned our attentions to Jerez which will be another tough and important Grand Prix,” said Márquez, whose victory came amid a touch of controversy after his overtake on Thomas Lüthi on the final lap.

“I don't want any bad feelings with any rider, especially someone riding for the same manufacturer, and I think he understood that. They're actions in the heat of the moment and at Jerez everything will be normal, but on the final lap, and in Moto2, there is always a lot to fight for and everybody wants to win.”

Also placed firmly behind him is the injury which forced him to miss much of the pre-season. “It was something that dragged on, for five months, there were highs and lows, but the important thing is that I have recovered. If there were any remaining doubts for anybody, I believe that Qatar proved that my vision is at 100%,” commented Márquez.

Looking ahead to the back-to-back rounds at Jerez and Estoril, races in which he did not score any points last season, Márquez added: “Let's hope we can use the experience of last year. That's not to say I may not make an error, that could always happen, but we will try to use our experience. In Qatar we started off well, but at Jerez we start again from scratch, and the same at Estoril too. The season is very long, it's only just started, and we have to be patient as we progress.”
