Fenati confirms potential with fastest Moto3™ time of the day

Fenati confirms potential with fastest Moto3™ time of the day

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Miguel Oliveira has finished top ahead of Red Bull KTM Ajo´s Sandro Cortese in the second practice session of the Gran Premio bwin de España, as the Moto3™ class had their first wet session of the day to contend with.

The Portuguese rider set a fastest time of 1.59´753 in wet conditions, with German youngster Cortese less than three tenths behind. Championship leader Maverick Viñales, who posted the second fastest time in the dry morning session, looked to be on course to top the timesheets in the final stages, but a small mistake means he lies three thousands behind in third.

Redox-Ongetta-Centro Seta´s Jakub Kornfeil continued his good form to post the fourth fastest time of the afternoon, followed by local RW Racing GP rider Luis Salom, who repeats his morning feat of finishing fifth.

San Carlo Gresini Moto3´s Niccolo Antonelli, who has switched to the FTR Honda chassis for this weekend, was getting to grips with his new machine in sixth, closely followed by the JHK T-Shirt Laglisse pair of Efren Vazquez and Adrian Martin. They too switched to the same chassis following difficulties in Qatar.

Surprise of the top ten was Alex Marquez, younger brother of Moto2™ rider Marc Marquez, who placed the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Suter Honda in ninth on his wildcard debut, despite crashing out at the end. Rounding out the top ten was Caretta Technology´s Jack Miller.

Moto FGR rider Jasper Iwema and Mahindra Racing´s Danny Webb both crashed in the closing stages, yet walked away unscathed.

The fastest time of the day was set by Team Italia FMI´s Romano Fenati in the dry morning session with a 1.49´760, yet the Italian did not get to grips with the wet conditions and finished the afternoon in 21st. Viñales and Cortese round out the top three fastest times of the day.
