Edwards caught out by lack of dry track time at Jerez

It was not the most positive race weekend for Colin Edwards and his NGM Mobile Forward Racing team at the Jerez GP, as continual work on wet weather settings put paid to his dry race set-up.

The team was however pleased to finish the race and acquire valuable data to continue the development of its prototype Suter-BMW for its third World Championship appearance next weekend in Estoril.

Colin Edwards – 16th

"We didn’t have much dry time this weekend, so dry setup was kind of a guess; we shortened the bike a lot this weekend compared to what when we tested here in March and that got rid of some of the chatter. We put on the new Bridgestone front and it worked pretty good. With a shorter bike and no dry time it took a few laps to get use to it and trying to control the wheelie. We knew it was going to be an uphill battle here after how it went during the winter test. Thanks to my guys, we tried everything, trying to find a setup. We just didn’t have enough dry time to find it."

Kornelis Veldeman – Crew Chief

"I am happy we finished the race after yesterday’s crash and the problems we had with the second bike. On one hand I am happy with the result and because now we have done race distance in wet conditions and we created a lot of data that we will be analysing for next race. We have learned a lot and realized that we are not at the pace we need when we encounter situations with weather changes from dry to wet or wet to dry, which is something that we need to work on. On the other hand we are disappointed with the results, we expected to be within the points."
