Viñales heads first Moto3™ free practice at Estoril

The first free practice of the Moto3™ class at the Grande Prémio de Portugal Circuito Estoril got underway this morning with Blusens Avintia´s Maverick Viñales topping the timesheets ahead of local rider Miguel Oliveira.

Despite the sun being out, the track was still wet due to an earlier downpour at the Portuguese circuit, meaning that riders went out on full wets. In these conditions Viñales set a fastest time of 1.56´138, just under four-tenths ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0´s Oliveira, who will be looking to please his home crowd this weekend. The top three was completed by Bankia Aspar Team´s Alberto Moncayo, who has had a slightly subdued season so far.

Fourth spot went to JHK T-Shirt Laglisse´s Adrian Martín in front of Red Bull KTM Ajo´s Danny Kent. Caretta Technology´s Alexis Masbou finished sixth overall, almost two seconds off the front.

Martín´s teammate Efrén Vázquez lies seventh, ahead of Kent´s rookie teammate Arthur Sissis in eighth and San Carlo Gresini Moto3´s Niccolo Antonelli in ninth. Rounding out the top ten is Team Italia FMI´s Alessandro Tonucci. His teammate and championship leader Romano Fenati finished the session in 15th.

Mahindra Racing´s Marcel Schrotter crashed out with 15 minutes to go, yet escaped unscathed.

Caretta Technology´s Jack Miller is replaced this weekend by Italian Manuel Tatasciore, after the Australian fractured his collarbone in Jerez. IodaRacing Project´s Jonas Folger is still suffering from glandular fever and has been replaced this weekend by Italian rider Armando Pontone, while TT Motion Events Racing´s Niklas Ajo is replaced by Spain´s Joan Olive, after the Finn was banned following an altercation with a race official at the last round.
