Marquez goes fastest in final Moto2™ free practice

In the final free practice session of the Moto2™ class at the Grande Prémio de Portugal Circuito Estoril it was Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol´s Marc Marquez who set the fastest time ahead of Tom Lüthi.

In near perfect conditions, Marquez set the fastest lap of 1.41´041 to head the Moto2™ field as the riders prepared for this afternoon´s qualifying session at the Portuguese track. Marquez will be buoyed by this time, as it was more than half a second faster than last year´s pole-lap, set by reigning Moto2 champion Stefan Bradl. Interwetten-Paddock´s Lüthi was second fastest just over three tenths behind, ahead of Marc VDS Racing Team´s Scott Redding in third.

Fourth spot went to Jerez race winner Pol Espargaró, who edged out Blusens Avintia´s Julián Simón into fifth. JiR Moto2´s French rookie Johann Zarco was on course to finish higher up the order on his last lap, yet crashed out as he was chasing top spot. He still finished sixth fastest overall.

Speed Master´s Andrea Iannone, who looked to have had serious issues on his bike yesterday, clocked the seventh quickest time of the session, getting his weekend back on track. Surprise eighth place is current 125cc World Champion Nico Terol on-board his Mapfre Aspar Team machine, who has been somewhat off the radar so far this season. Rounding out the top ten are Tech 3 Racing´s Bradley Smith and Redding´s teammate Mika Kallio.

GP Team Switzerland´s Randy Krummenacher lost the front into turn seven with 30 minutes left on the clock, yet did not re-join the session.
