Stoner heads sunny Estoril MotoGP™ warm-up

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner set the early pace of the day in this morning's warm-up session ahead of the Grande Prémio de Portugal Circuito Estoril.

With sunny skies and a dry track, conditions were the best they had been all weekend, leading Stoner to not only lap over four tenths lower than his pole position lap, but also beat the current race-lap record.

His lap of 1.36’795 was almost eight tenths ahead of his teammate Pedrosa, who was second fastest. Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso made the most of the conditions to finish top Yamaha in third, just under a tenth off Pedrosa. Stoner, however, looks to have found his stride at the Portuguese circuit, and will no doubt go into the race as clear favourite.

With seven minutes left of the session, the red flag came out after Avintia Blusens’ Iván Silva was high-sided off his bike between turn one and two, ending up on the inside of the track. Despite walking away somewhat gingerly from the crash, Silva has been pronounced fit for the race.

NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards will not take part in any of the day’s sessions, as he suffered a broken collarbone in a crash in yesterday’s qualifying session. He is being flown to Barcelona, Spain, later today, to undergo surgery on Monday.
