Viñales sets early pace in Le Mans Moto3™ free practice

At the fourth round of the Moto3™ championship at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France in Le Mans, it was Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales who set the pace in the first free practice ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Miguel Oliveira.

In a session that was held in cool but dry conditions, Viñales set a fastest time of 1.45’437 ahead of Oliveira just over one tenth behind. Championship leader, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Sandro Cortese, was third fastest with a time of 1.45’651.

Behind the leading trio in fourth was Team Italia FMI’s Romano Fenati, who will be looking to make up for his DNF last time out in Estoril, just in front of JHK T-Shirt Laglisse’s Efrén Vázquez. Sixth spot went to Cortese’s teammate Danny Kent, who is slightly less than 1.5s off the front.

In seventh place was RW Racing GP’s Luis Salom, while AirAsia-SIC-Ajo’s Zulfahmi Khairuddin set the eighth quickest time. The pair were involved in an exciting battle last time out in Estoril where Salom beat Khairuddin to the podium, yet the young Malaysian will no doubt be looking to get one over on his rival this weekend in France. Rounding out the top ten are Caretta Technology’s local rider Alexis Masbou and Oliveira’s teammate Alex Rins.

The session was largely incident free with only Mahindra Racing’s Danny Webb taking a brief excursion into the gravel early on.
