Lüthi fastest again in second free practice at Catalunya

Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi once again set the fastest time in the second free practice session of the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya ahead of Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding.

Lüthi was once again on the pace, setting the fastest time of 1.46’768, despite crashing out of the session eight minutes before the end. He ousted Redding into second, by just under four tenths, who was faster than Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró. The Catalan rider left it until the last minutes to post a competitive lap, yet could not match his second spot from the morning.

Speed Master’s Andrea Iannone will be pleased with his form at the circuit, as he was fourth quickest, just under a second slower than Lüthi. The Italian was followed closely by NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Alex de Angelis by just over a hundredth, who displaced Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami into sixth.

JiR Moto2’s charging French rookie Johann Zarco continued to impress in the afternoon by finishing in seventh, while GP Team Switzerland’s Randy Krummenacher recovered from a crash in the morning session to post the eighth fastest time. Came IodaRacing Project’s Simone Corse was the fastest FTR machine on the grid in ninth, while Mapfre Aspar Team’s local rider Toni Elías finished tenth. It was yet again another session to forget for Marc Márquez, as the Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol rider finished in an uncharacteristic 12th.

De Angelis’ teammate Yuki Takahashi suffered electrical problems on his bike early on, but managed to head back out on track, whilst QMMF Racing Team’s Elena Rosell suffered a crash late on in the session. Rosell was unhurt in the incident.
