Viñales sets the early pace in sunny Catalunya

In the first Moto3™ practice session of the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya it was Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales who set the fastest time of the morning ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Miguel Oliveira.

In the best conditions the Moto3 grid has seen in Europe so far, it was Spaniard Viñales who set the fastest time of the morning with a 1.53’168 ahead of Portuguese rider Oliveira, who was almost half a second behind. Oliveira will be looking to make up for a difficult start to the season, which has seen him fail to finish the last three races.

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s championship leader Sandro Cortese rounds out the top three ahead of AisAsia-SIC-Ajo’s Zulfahmi Khairuddin, who will be aiming to get on the podium for the first time in his Grand Prix career. He is followed closely by Racing Team Germany’s Le Mans race-winner Louis Rossi, who looks on good form after having trained with Moto2™ compatriot Johann Zarco last week.

Cortese’s teammate Danny Kent was sixth fastest, in front of JHK T-Shirt Laglisse’s Efrén Vázquez and Bankia Aspar Team’s Alberto Moncayo, who tasted podium success last time out. Rounding out the top then are Oliveira’s teammate Alex Rins, who has recovered from an operation on his little finger, as well as Moncayo’s teammate Hector Faubel.
