Cortese on top in final Moto3™ free practice at Silverstone

In the final Moto3™ free practice session at the Hertz British Grand Prix at Silverstone it was Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Sandro Cortese who went quickest ahead of Maverick Viñales and Miguel Oliveira.

The predicted rain stayed away for the opening session of the day, which saw Cortese set the fastest time of the weekend so far with a 2.17’835 in cool but dry conditions. Blusens Avintia’s title challenger Viñales was just under two tenths behind, with Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Oliveira in tow. Oliveira had looked strong all session, yet crashed out with 10 minutes to go.

Caretta Technology’s Alexis Masbou put in a good showing in fourth place, ahead of Cortese’s local teammate Danny Kent, who is looking to challenge for a win in front of his home crowd. Oliveira’s teammate Alex Rins finished the morning in fifth, though suffered a fall on his final hot lap. Racing Team Germany’s Louis Rossi, who was just marginally slower, suffered the same fate with three minutes left, as he lost the front end of his machine as well. Both riders escaped injury.

Eighth place saw a surprise inclusion of Mahindra Racing’s Danny Webb, who was clearly drawing inspiration from his home supporters. The Brit finished ahead of Team Italia FMI’s Romano Fenati and RW Racing GP’s Luis Salóm.

Salóm’s teammate Brad Binder took an early excursion off track, yet managed to re-join the session, while TT Motion Events Racing’s Niklas Ajo fell twice towards the end of the session. Both riders escaped unscathed.
