Espargaró fastest in tricky final free practice at Silverstone

Espargaró fastest in tricky final free practice at Silverstone

In a final Moto2™ free practice cut short by spells of rain at the Hertz British Grand Prix in Silverstone, it was Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró who set the fastest time ahead of Scott Redding and Johann Zarco.

Despite yesterday’s front-runners being at the top of the timesheets in this morning’s final free practice session, the weather conditions gave little indication of actual form, as the riders experienced only 25 minutes of track time. The first ten minutes were largely dry before light rain interrupted the session. With 15 minutes remaining the riders headed cautiously back out on track as it appeared to have largely dried out.

And it was Espargaró who continued his tremendous form so far this weekend as he set the quickest time of 2.08’340 ahead of Marc VDS Racing Team’s Redding and JiR Moto2’s Johann Zarco, who did not improve on his time yesterday. Bradley Smith, also slower this morning, occupied fourth spot, ahead of Speed Master’s Andrea Iannone and Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi who posted their best times today.

Behind them were Technomag-CIP’s Dominique Aegerter, Came IodaRacing Project’s Simone Corsi, Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami and Espargaró’s teammate Axel Pons.

Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Marc Márquez fell foul of the conditions as the grid headed back out a second time, as he crashed his Suter at high speed. Another crasher in the mixed conditions was NGM Mobile Forward Racings Yuki Takahashi, as he lost the back end of his bike. Both fortunately walked away unhurt.
