Battaini to replace Abraham in Germany

Battaini to replace Abraham in Germany

Ducati Team test rider Franco Battaini will replace Karel Abraham in the Cardion AB Racing team at this weekend’s eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland after the Czech rider failed to recover from a hand injury in time.

Abraham, who sustained a fracture of the 5th and 3rd metacarpal of the left hand as well as some deep cuts during the test after the Catalunya round, has not made the healing progress he had first hoped. Initial assessment was that the he should have been ready for Dutch Grand Prix in Assen last weekend, yet after sighting significant pain after the first practice, further assessments ruled him out of the Germany round as well.

In order to progress with the bike’s set up for the season and collect valuable data, Ducati Team’s official test rider Franco Battaini, who joined the Italian outfit in 2010, will contest the German round in his place. Battaini last raced in MotoGP in 2005 on board a V6 Blata-WCM, after which he had spells in World Superbikes, World Supersport and the Italian CIV.
