Espargaró once again on top at the Sachsenring

Espargaró once again on top at the Sachsenring

Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró went fastest once more at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland at the Sachsenring in the final free Moto2™ practice ahead of Alex de Angelis and Marc Márquez.

After the MotoGP™ field suffered a wet track in the preceding session, the Moto2™ grid was able to head out on slicks as the track had dried sufficiently. Espargaró made the most of this to post the fastest time of 1.25’230 ahead of NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s De Angelis and Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Márquez. Whilst De Angelis set his fastest time so far this morning, both Espargaró’s and Márquez’s times from FP 1 remain the fastest so far, with the Pons rider narrowly on top.

Speed Master’s Andrea Iannone, currently second in the championship, put in a solid performance to finish fourth, ahead of Tech 3 Racing’s Bradley Smith, who has looked strong all weekend. Sixth place was occupied by GP Team Switzerland’s Randy Krummenacher, who was significantly higher up the timesheets than he had been all weekend.

Smith’s teammate Xavier Simeon was behind him in seventh, with Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi in eighth. Lüthi will be looking for an upsurge in form if he is to challenge the top riders in qualifying later today, as he sits in seventh place overall in the combined practice timesheets. Marc VDS Racing Team’s Mika Kallio came in ninth, while Technomag-CIP’s Dominique Aegerter completed the top ten, despite crashing out in the latter stages.

De Angelis’ teammate Yuki Takahashi suffered a high speed crash in only his fourth lap of the morning, while new Moto2 addition Alessandro Andreozzi, on board his S/Master Speed Up bike, fell with 30 minutes left. All of the riders walked away unscathed.
