MotoGP™ stars react to Márquez signing

Following the news that the Repsol Honda Team has signed Moto2™ rider Marc Márquez for next season, the top MotoGP™ riders shared their thoughts on his imminent jump to the premier class.

Jorge Lorenzo, Yamaha Factory Racing

I think it’s good news for MotoGP and the championship to have another great rider fighting with us next year. I think he’ll be able to be quite fast from the beginning, from the first race; from the first practice more or less. They’re a good couple – Dani and Márquez in the same team, with a Spanish sponsor. It’s a good thing for Spain and the championship.

Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda Team

I agree with Jorge. MotoGP is tougher and we have to see how he begins, but sure he’s very talented and there are no doubts about his possibilities.

Casey Stoner, Repsol Honda Team

Everybody knows my opinion on Marc and what his capabilities are, and I think he’s shown what his intentions are by the championship he’s having now. So it should be interesting to watch next year and see how he goes. For sure the rookie rule to be taken away is the best decision, full stop.

Andrea Dovizioso, Monster Yamaha Tech 3

I’m really interested to see what Márquez can do in the next two years. He’s s fast and strong, and I have a good relationship with him. I’m really interested because his style is quite particular and I want to see how he will ride in MotoGP. I think there is a big difference. And it looks like in Moto2 you can’t work on the bike a lot, but in MotoGP you have to do so.

Valentino Rossi, Ducati Team

I like Márquez a lot. I think he’s very young but he’s demonstrated a lot that he has the potential to be a world champion in the future in MotoGP. He’s very strong and very fast, and sometimes he’s also won difficult races when he’s not the fastest on the track. This is so important. To go to the Repsol Honda Team I think is fantastic for a rookie, because it’s the best way. So, we’re waiting for him.
