Viñales quickest in first free practice at Mugello

Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales was fastest out of the blocks this morning at the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello, setting the fastest time at the Tuscan track ahead of Danny Kent and Sandro Cortese.

Under part-cloudy skies, the third successive race weekend in a row got underway with Viñales re-finding his form after a disappointing last race, and posting the fastest time of 2.00’430. He was followed closely by Red Bull KTM Ajo duo of Danny Kent and Sandro Cortese, who were both less than three tenths away from the Spaniard.

RW Racing GP’s Luis Salom, who finished on the podium last time out, looks to have continued his good run of form, as he finished in fourth spot, just three thousandths off Cortese. San Carlo Gresini Moto3’s Niccolò Antonelli was clearly lapping up the home support as he came in fifth, with Team Italia FMI’s Romano Fenati doing the same in sixth.

Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3’s Alberto Moncayo continued his top ten consistency in seventh, ahead of Racing Team Germany’s Louis Rossi, who will be looking to make amends for his DNF at the Sachsenring. Redox-Ongetta-Centro Seta’s Jakub Kornfeil finished in ninth, just over half a second off the front, ahead of IodaRacing Project’s Jonas Folger in tenth.

The session also saw to wildcards make an appearance in the form of Elle 2 Ciati’s Kevin Calia and Racing Team Gabrielli’s Michael Ruben Rinaldi.
