Viñales leads final free practice at Mugello

Viñales leads final free practice at Mugello

In the final free practice of the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello it was Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales who set the quickest time ahead of Danny Kent and Niccolò Antonelli.

Viñales posted a time of 1.58’530 to head the combined timesheets of all sessions, as he ousted Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Kent into second. Kent, who has been on tremendous form all weekend looks to be the Spaniard’s greatest challenger heading into qualifying this afternoon. Another consistent performer is San Carlo Gresini Moto3’s Antonelli, who was using his local knowledge of the track to great effect, as he posted the third fastest time of the morning.

Kent’s teammate and championship leader Sandro Cortese came in fourth, yet was a over seven tenths off the front. Cortese has not been challenging Viñales in the practice sessions so far, yet is renowned for pulling something out the bag come qualifying. Behind him in fifth was Redox-Ongetta-Centro Seta’s Jakub Kornfeil, who has been improving slowly throughout all session. Less than a hundredth behind was Racing Team Germany’s Louis Rossi, followed by Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins.

Team Italia FMI’s Romano Fenati could not repeat his front-running pace of yesterday finishing eighth, but has nonetheless looked strong and will no doubt be one of the front runners come race day in front of his home support. JHK Laglisse’s Efrén Vázquez brought his bike home in ninth, while RW Racing GP’s Brad Binder completed the top ten.
