Márquez and Lüthi complete Suter test in Portimão

In preparation for the second half of the Moto2™ season, Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Marc Márquez and Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi both completed tests at the Portimão circuit yesterday.

Having barely featured in pre-season testing due to his double vision problem, this was a welcome three-day test for championship leader Márquez, who looks to extend his already sizeable lead at the top of the championship when the class re-joins the MotoGP™ grid when it travels to Indianapolis for the race on 19th August. Lüthi, who is playing catch-up to Márquez despite posting some good results this season, joined the test a day after the Spaniard, in a bid to make up ground in the championship race.

The test, with support from their chassis manufacturer Suter, saw both riders test new developments from the Swiss company, designed to make the bike even more competitive at the circuits that will be visited in the second half of the season. The test was carried out using a standard Honda CBR 600 engine, as the Moto2™ engine allocation does not take into account test mileage; and the current race engine has to last for the next two rounds in Indianapolis and Brno.

After three days of hard work, Márquez was pleased with the outcome of the test: "The test went very well and we have gathered a lot of data, which is what this week was all about. The first day was more for me to get used to the track, which is unique in its elevation changes and bumps and complicates the setup a bit. With that out of the way, we could try new things, as Suter have worked very hard on providing us with solutions. We should be happy, because we've drawn a few conclusions. Coming here was positive and this will help us to be more prepared for the second half of the season, try to go a little faster and, above all, feel more comfortable.”
