Álex Márquez and Carmelo Morales crowned CEV Buckler Champions 2012 in Albacete

Albacete Circuit received the sixth round of racing of the CEV Buckler 2012. More than 13,000 fans were present as Álex Márquez and Carmelo Morales were crowned Champions of the Moto3™ and Stock Extreme respectively in the CEV Buckler 2012, even though there is still one race left before the end of the competition.

Álex Márquez didn’t even need to be on the podium to be named Champion of the CEV Buckler Moto3™ category. Fourth place was enough to secure the title for Márquez, who looked on as his main rival, German Luca Amato, crashed a few laps from the end of the race. Juanfran Guevara masterfully won the race, dominating most of the way and withstanding the attacks of his rivals. Italian Francesco Bagnaia got up to second place in the final moments of the race, pushing Albert Arenas into third.

Carmelo Morales counted this as his fourth title as CEV Buckler Champion, thanks to a second place finish in the Stock Extreme race. Morales started the race riding conservatively whilst Adrián Bonastre –who finished in first place– and Xavi Forés –who finished third– set the pace. In the last third of the race, Bonastre and Forés became involved in a battle which meant that Morales could catch up to them. However, the Catalan rider decided not to run any risks and gave way to Bonastre, who gave few opportunities to his rivals. Antonio Alarcos was victorious in the Privateer Category.

Jordi Torres took a step forward in his fight for another Moto2™ title, following his victory last season. Torres waited for the right moment in the race to overtake his rivals without running any unnecessary risks and only increased his speed once he reached first place. Dani Rivas and Román Ramos lead the race at the beginning but had to resign themselves to fighting for second place, which was awarded to Rivas. Malaysian rider Hafizh Syahrin joined Torres, Rivas and Ramos on the podium as the fastest rider in the Privateer Category.

Victory in the Kawasaki Ninja Cup went to Ignacio Contreras who managed to beat Julio David Palao after they were neck and neck throughout the race. Hugo Martínez completed the podium after putting space between him and the pursuing group, but was still far behind the two race leaders. After today’s racing, Palao continues to lead the championship, but there is only a seven-point margin between him and his main challenger, Contreras. In addition, Martínez will go to the final round of the CEV Buckler in Valencia with a chance for the title. Meanwhile, José Carlos Lobo was awarded the Master 30.

The next and final round of the CEV Buckler will take place at Valencia Circuit on the 17th-18th November.
