Khairuddin tops wet first practice in Misano

In a wet first practice session at the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera de Rimini in Misano it was AirAsia-SIC-Ajo’s Zulfahmi Khairuddin who went fastest in the Moto3™ class ahead of Miguel Oliveira and Luis Salom.

The Malaysian rider coped well with the lukewarm yet wet conditions by posting the fastest time of 1.56’659, marginally ousting Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Oliveira into second by less than a tenth. RW Racing GP’s Luis Salom put in a good showing in the wet to finish the morning in third, over two tenths off the top. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s championship leader Sandro Cortese set the fourth fastest time, ahead of compatriot and last race winner Jonas Folger, on board his Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3 machine.

Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales, who has often had mixed showings in the wet, was on good form as he finished in sixth, ahead of Oliveira’s teammate Alex Rins. Team Italia FMI’s local rider Alessandro Tonucci went eighth fastest ahead of Cortese’s teammate Arthur Sissis, with JHK t-shirt Laglisse’s Efrén Vázquez completing the top ten.

It was a crash-strewn affair as Racing Team Germany’s Louis Rossi was the first to fall in the tough conditions, followed by JHK t-shirt Laglisse’s Adrián Martín, Rossi’s teammate Toni Finsterbusch, Elle 2-Ciatti’s wildcard Kevin Calia, Team Imperiali Racing’s wildcard Stefano Valtulini, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Danny Kent, Caretta Technology’s Jack Miller and Moto FGR’s Jasper Iwema. Fortunately none of the riders were hurt in the incidents.
