Final free practice in Misano sees Corsi finish on top

In a final free practice in the Moto2™ class, which was met with a dry track, at the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera de Rimini it was Came IodaRacing Project’s Simone Corsi who set the pace ahead of Mika Kallio and Marc Márquez.

Following wet and mixed preceding sessions the Moto2™ grid was once again lucky with constant track conditions, which had dried out sufficiently for the intermediate-class. And it was local rider Corsi who was the surprise of the morning, putting his FTR in top spot with the best lap so far of 1.39’121. Marc VDS Racing Team’s Kallio was only fractionally behind, yet managed to edge out Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Márquez into third.

It was a close fought affair, as Kallio’s teammate Scott Redding was in fourth spot, just over a tenth off the top, with Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró narrowly behind in fifth. JiR Moto2’s Johann Zarco, who had shone in yesterday’s wet sessions, was still in ominous form today in the dry, as his time saw the rookie take a credible sixth. Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami flew the flag for his Italian team with a good performance that saw him finish seventh.

Tech 3 Racing’s Bradley Smith wrestled his Mistral 610 into eighth, ahead of Technomag-CIP’s Dominique Aegerter and Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi. There were no fallers until right at the very end when Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Jordi Torres lost the front on his final hot lap. The Spanish rider was unhurt in the incident. With the top ten separated by less than four tenths, qualifying promises to be close-fought affair this afternoon.
