Zarco on top in last Moto2™ run before Aragón qualifying

The final Moto2™ pre-qualifying practice at MotorLand Aragón was led by Frenchman Johann Zarco on his JiR Moto2 machine on a wet-drying track, with Alex de Angelis in second and Anthony West third.

As the riders made their final preparations for Saturday afternoon’s qualifying action at the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragón the Spanish track was drying considerably during the final Moto2™ free practice and Zarco was the man to state his intentions most clearly once again.

Having also gone round quickest in FP2 the Motobi rider’s best time of 2:06.345s at the end of the session gave him the lead on the timesheet by a 0.139s margin from his NGM Mobile Forward Racing rival de Angelis, with QMMF Racing Team’s West finishing in third place - a further 0.2s down on de Angelis.

Spaniard Julián Simón on his Blusens Avintia bike and Briton Gino Rea on his Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 machine completed the top five and were both within half a second of Zarco’s hot time.

Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s clear championship favourite Marc Márquez was a second off the pace in ninth place, joined in the top ten by Alex Mariñelarena (Targo Bank CNS Motorsport), Pol Espargaró (Pons 40 HP Tuenti), Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing Team) and Jordi Torres (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2).

That meant that half the top ten was made up of Spanish riders and the local fans will be hoping for more good results and better weather this afternoon as the rain appears to have died off - allowing the track to dry somewhat ahead of qualifying.
