Dovizioso enjoys fight with team-mate Crutchlow

As race-winning Dani Pedrosa pulled away from Jorge Lorenzo in the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragón, all eyes were on the entertaining dice for third position between the pair of Monster Yamaha Tech 3 riders. Separated at the chequered flag by just one tenth of a second, Andrea Dovizioso crossed the line in front of team-mate Cal Crutchlow.

The Italian had come from the back of row two on the grid, having been half a second slower than the Englishman in qualifying trim. On a warmer and brighter Sunday at MotorLand Aragón, Dovizioso was delighted to hold on for third position after he and Crutchlow continued to trade places in the closing stages of the 23-lap race.

"Cal tried to overtake me on the last two laps," Dovizioso recalled. "He actually did twice, but at those points he wasn’t able to stop the bike in the best places. It was nice to fight with him and I’m happy both with third position and my strategy in the race because I was quite slow in a few of the corners. To get back onto the podium is so important because we couldn’t in the last two races, so this is very good for the championship position."

With four rounds remaining this year, Dovizioso is fourth in the riders’ championship and now trails reigning World Champion Casey Stoner by seven points; it remains to be seen whether the Repsol Honda Team rider will be able to return next time out in Japan.
