Espargaró leads final free practice in Valencia

On a near dry track it was Tuenti Movil HP 40’s Pol Espargaró who set the quickest time in the final Moto2™ free practice session at the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana ahead of Andrea Iannone and Simone Corsi.

The preceding sessions had almost fully dried out the Valencain track, where Espargaró made the most of the conditions to set the fastest time of 1.35’369 ahead of Speed Master’s Iannone, who looked like his old self again, although he did have a couple of close crashes which he managed to save. Came IodaRacing Project’s Simone Corsi did well to recover from his big crash in yesterday afternoon’s session to post the third quickest time.

Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Marc Márquez, who was the cause of the Italian’s crash yesterday, and has been told to start from the back of the grid on Sunday, had his own crash in this session, yet still managed to finish fourth. Technomag-CIP’s Dominique Aegerter put in a strong showing in fifth, ahead of Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s local boy Nico Terol. Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi was closely behind in seventh, with Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami in tow. Espargaró’s teammate Esteve Rabat and Tech 3 Racing’s Bradley Smith completed the top ten.

On the combined timesheets Márquez is still second fastest, while Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding, who had a subdued morning session, is in fifth.
