Abraham’s GP12 sports superior power and speed
Czech rider Karel Abraham will ride a more powerful and faster bike for his second season in the MotoGP™ class. The new Ducati GP12 is powered by a 4-stroke, 1000cc 4 cylinder engine putting put 250HP and a maximum speed of 360 km per hour.
This year’s model sports a deltabox aluminium frame, replacing last year’s carbon chassis. Cardion AB Motoracing crew chief, Marco Grana, upon returning from two weeks in the Bologna factory with team colleagues explained, "At first glance it may appear that the bike is similar to last year’s model, but under the fairing is a series of significant changes."
The exterior has been slightly modified, but the design is still based on a combination of blue and white colors. Atypical wings, which were used on the fairings in 2011 to increase the pressure on the front wheel will disappear this year. Suspension is still provided by Öhlins, and brakes are still from Brembo.
Rider Karel Abraham tested the new bike in Valencia following the final round of 2011. "I tried the new bike during the post-season test, but the first real test will be held at Sepang in Malaysia at the end of January. We need to be well prepared for the first test because we want to try a lot of things. We also have to work on the set-up of the bike because the 2012 MotoGP season kicks off in Qatar on April 8th."
According to the provisional entry list for the 2012 MotoGP World Championship, the Cardion AB Motoracing rider will compete against eleven factory bikes and nine CRT bikes. Among the many rookies joining the premier class will be Abraham’s old friends from Moto2, including reigning Moto2 World Champion Stefan Bradl. "Thanks to the increased number of riders, the MotoGP class will be more exciting for spectators and for us. It’s great that I will ride against my old rivals and friends, but I’m concentrating on my goal – to be in the front positions as much as possible," concluded Abraham.
