Alex de Angelis provided the NGM Mobile Forward Racing team with their second-ever victory in Moto2™ after a magnificent performance at the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix in Sepang.

The constant weather changes put the rider from San Marino to the test, having to fight for the victory with expert riders in the rain like Anthony West and Gino Rea, before he was named victor during the 15th lap, just before the red flag. De Angelis was in a constant tussle with the Australian and Brit, and ultimately benefited from the red flag, which was shown briefly after Rea had past him into first. Yet having led in the previous lap, the San Marino rider was awarded the win. It is the first time this season that an FTR chassis has won a race.

Alex de Angelis

“A fantastic race and perfect strategy. We started off really well from the first corner with the tires that I had already used in the morning. I decided to take control of the race from the very beginning. The bike felt perfect, I braked how and where I wanted, and I was able to ride in a very comfortable way. When it started to rain heavily I didn’t want to risk it and the wise decision made by Race Direction to red flag the race favoured me.”

Pietro Caprara, Moto2 Technical Director

“Fantastic race by Alex, who showed great mastery and tactical intelligence during a very complicated race. There are not many words to describe the fact that he raced like the champion he is - he has shown his true value.”
