Elías to substitute for Barberá once more at Brno

Tuesday, 21 August 2012

The Pramac Racing Team has confirmed that Toni Elías will once again substitute for Héctor Barberá at this weekend’s bwin Grand Prix Ceské Republiky after their rider sustained fractured vertebrae in a crash at Indianapolis.

Barberá, who had broken his left fibula and tibia only 27 days before the Indianapolis race last weekend, was violently thrown off his bike in the final turn during FP1, resulting in fractured vertebrae. Fortunately it was not as serious as the back injury that kept him hospitalised for two weeks in Japan in 2008, yet it is still severe enough for the Spaniard to miss the race this weekend.

Elías, who is currently still without a permanent ride, will stand in for a third time, after having done so in Laguna Seca and in Indianapolis. Whilst in Laguna he crashed out after two laps, he managed to bring the bike home in 11th at the Brickyard. He and the team will however be hoping he can pull a similar result out of the bag as he did in 2008, when he came second at the Czech track with Ducati’s then satellite outfit, the Alice Team.

The Pramac Team has stated that it expects Barberá to return to action when the MotoGP™ grid travels to Misano for the race on the 16th September.
