Spanish team move to sign German youngster for the remainder of the 2012 season

The Mapfre Aspar Team have agreed a deal with German rider Jonas Folger for the remainder of the Moto3™ World Championship. The Spanish outfit are the current 125cc World Champions but after a discreet first half of the current campaign they have moved to strengthen their rider line-up with the promising 18-year-old.

Just one podium so far this season at the French Grand Prix represents a poor return for an organisation with the pedigree and resources of the Mapfre Aspar Team, who have decided to bring in Folger as a replacement for Alberto Moncayo in an attempt to turnaround their fortunes in the second half of the season. The German youngster already has a win and four podiums to his name and he will look to add to that tally as new team-mate to Héctor Faubel over the final eight rounds of the campaign.

Jonas Folger:

"I am delighted to be signing for the Mapfre Aspar Team. It is probably the most experienced team in the paddock and I know how professional they all are. I am highly motivated and will work as hard as necessary to make the most of this opportunity. My objective is to squeeze every bit of potential out of the Kalex, which is a very reliable bike in terms of the chassis and the KTM engine. It is a fast bike and it looks quite easy to ride so I am very much looking forward to riding it, meeting the team and getting down to work."
