Moto FGR and Iwema split, Rodriguez in as replacement

Tuesday, 2 October 2012

Moto3™ team Moto FGR has announced that it has split with Dutch rider Jasper Iwema and will be fielding Josep Rodriguez as a replacement in the final four races.

A team statement said: "The team has decided to cease cooperation with Dutch rider Jasper Iwema after the thirteenth race of the season in the Aragón. There is no need to restate the reasons. We hope that the new rider Josep Rodriguez, now officially confirmed with IRTA, will supply the team again with some wind in its sails."

Iwema released a statement saying that he already has some offers to ponder and that he will come back in 2013: "Last Sunday my 2012 season ended, and I will be heading confidently into a new season. IRTA assured us last weekend that next year there would be a starting place for me. We have had a number of concrete offers from teams for 2013, which gives courage!"

18-year-old Rodriguez has a total of 11 Grand Prix starts, eight of which were last year, when he entered as a wildcard for the Wild Wolf-RACC-MS in Jerez (15th) and Catalonia (23rd), and later as a substituted for Andalucia Bank Civica team at Assen (21st). Last year he finished the last five races of the season in Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing team in place of Sergio Gadea, and in Sepang scored two more championship points in 14th place.
