Masbou breaks podium duck at Sachsenring

Tuesday, 10 July 2012

Caretta Technology’s Alexis Masbou had a lot to celebrate last weekend, after a hard fought race saw him take to the podium for the first time in his GP career at the Sachsenring.

Since the introduction of the Moto3™ class, the Frenchman has looked on form and been consistently challenging the front-runners, yet the top three had continued to elude him. However, after Masbou took full advantage of a drying line last weekend, all his experience showed, and he was able to final break his podium duck.

This was the first time on the podium in his Grand Prix career in what was his 103rd start in the lightweight class of GP racing. This is the greatest number of starts for a rider in the 125cc/Moto3 class before achieving a first podium finish.

Masbou’s best result at the upcoming round in Mugello from seven starts at the circuit in the 125cc class was tenth in 2005, his debut season in Grand Prix.

Alexis Masbou

"I am very happy. The race was very complex and difficult as the entire weekend. Thanks to the team who worked hard and gave us the competitive bikes. Early in the wet it was difficult not to slip and I preferred to be calm. Then in the second half of the race when the track was drying I battled with Cortese but he was really fast in front of his fans."
