Issues mount up for Pasini at Silverstone

Thursday, 21 June 2012

Speed Master’s Mattia Pasini has not had the easiest start to the year, and mechanical issues at the Hertz British Grand Prix in Silverstone did little to ease his woes.

Having qualified for the race in 16th, the Italian suffered a crash and a technical problem in the morning warm-up session, which put paid to any necessary pre-race set-up work.

The initial part of the race was good for Pasini as he closed in on the CRT machines in front of him, Paul Bird Motorsport’s James Ellison and Avintia Blusens’ Yonny Hernandez. However, with six laps left in the race, the Italian suffered a mechanical problem with the seat of his ART, which forced him to retire.

Despite a 12th in the wet at Le Mans, Pasini has not had the most successful start to the season and will be hoping for his luck to change at the Assen round. Two DNFs, two 17th places and 14th place, along with his 12th see Pasini 16th in the world championship standings. Yet, with the Power Electronics Aspar stable doing well on the same ART machinery, the Italian will no doubt be optimistic of another good result soon.

Mattia Pasini

"It was an unlucky Sunday. In the warm up, we decided to try the flag to flag procedure, in case we were forced to deal with it in the race. When I went out with the second bike, the tyres weren’t warm enough and I crashed out. I went out again on the other bike, but there was a technical problem and, in the end, we basically skipped the warm up. It’s a shame, because for the race we were quite well set. In the beginning, on the first laps, we struggled a little; then we got closer to Ellison and Hernandez. I was there with them, waiting for the final part of the race, but then I was forced to retire because of a problem with the seat. I’m sorry it ended up this way, but in the whole we made a good step forward with the speed. Let’s try not to get too sad and to be ready for Assen."
