Surtees and Agostini inducted into Hall of Fame

In honour of the ‘great and the good’ of motor racing, Motor Sport magazine held their annual and exclusive Hall of Fame awards ceremony at the Roundhouse in Camden, London on Thursday, February 16. A host of famous names from the motor sport world turned out to celebrate the achievements of the new inductees, who are Adrian Newey OBE, the late Colin McRae MBE, and two MotoGP™ Legends, John Surtees OBE and Giacomo Agostini.

Motor Sport magazine established the Hall of Fame event, held in association with TAG Heuer, as a favourite on the social calendar within the motorsport world, and this year’s ceremony included industry personalities and celebrities alike, including former F1 stars Martin Brundle, Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Stirling Moss, ex-500cc GP racer and truck racing champion Steve Parrish and former racer and F1 team manager Christian Horner.

Accepting his award from the hands of Sir Stirling Moss and TAG Heuer representative, Rob Diver, was the only man to have ever won World Championships on two and four wheels, John Surtees. The seven times motorcycling World Champion said upon accepting his new Motor Sport magazine Hall of Fame honour: "Well it’s a new experience for me here, I’ve been to the Hall of Fame in America, but it’s nice to come along and join some of these luminaries in motor sport. Of course it’s a wonderful occasion tonight, celebrating the in-depth interest for motor sport itself."

Fifteen time World Champion and the man considered by many to be the greatest motorcycle racer of all time, Giacomo Agostini, received his award from the hands of Martin Brundle and Steve Parrish, announcing: "It’s wonderful for me to receive this award from Motor Sport. I will put this one with all my trophies. It will be my 2000th! This one is very important to me."
