Hector Faubel and the Mapfre Aspar Team split, Amato in as replacement

Friday, 21 September 2012

In a joint decision, the Aspar team and Héctor Faubel have decided to terminate their working relationship in the Moto3™ World Championship. German rider Luca Amato will be his replacement until the end of season.

The Mapfre Aspar Team has announced the end of the relationship with Faubel, in a decision that was "taken together". The Spanish rider has virtually spent his entire career with the squad, with whom he was championship runner-up in the 125cc World Championship in 2007.

"The record, achievements and magnificent personal relationship with Faubel that lasted for many years will not go unnoticed from our team," explained the team, led by Jorge Martinez 'Aspar', in a recent statement, "so we will certainly not rule out working together in the future."

Faubel, 29, ends his time in the Moto3™ class having scored 52 points from the first 12 races, with two seventh-place finishes in Catalunya and Sachsenring being his best results.

Amato, from Cologne, is currently second in the Spanish CEV championship and already knows what it’s like winning at Motorland circuit, having taken victory there earlier this year. The Aspar team cited his knowledge of the track as one of the reason he will make his debut there next weekend.

The German youngster commented: "This is the time when one of my biggest dreams comes true. Finally I can compete in the World Championship, and I can do so with the Mapfre Aspar Team, one of the best teams in the world. The truth is, although I always dreamed to get an opportunity like this, I cannot believe that it’s a reality. Hopefully I can give my best, and I hope to adapt well to the team as soon as possible to start thinking about results.”
