Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró was the early pace setter for this weekend’s bwin Grand Prix České republiky in Brno as he set the quickest time in the first Moto2™ free practice ahead of Tom Lüthi and Simone Corsi.

Espargaró set the fastest time of the morning on his final lap with a 2.03’084, ousting Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi into second by just over a tenth. The Swiss rider had been an early pace setter in the session, and was lapping consistently fast throughout. In third, Came IodaRacing Project’s Simone Corsi looked on terrific form with his FTR, as he finished exactly half a second off the top spot.

Marc VDS Racing Team’s Mika Kallio ended the morning fourth, setting a joint fastest time with Speed Master’s Andrea Iannone, last year’s race winner. Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s championship leader Marc Márquez brought his Suter home in sixth, and will undoubtedly look to improve in the next practice session. He finished in front of Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Nico Terol, who continues to look invigorated after the summer break before Indianapolis.

Kallio’s teammate Scott Redding will be hoping to improve on his time in the next few outings as the Brit could only manage eighth, ahead of Tech 3’s compatriot Bradley Smith. JiR Moto2’s Johann Zarco, who had dipped off the radar after a storming start to his rookie season, rounded out the top ten. Italtrans Racing Team’s Claudio Corti crashed early on in the session causing the red flags to come out. He was unhurt in the incident, yet the track-side airbags had to be repaired before the bikes could head back out on track.
