The Italtrans Racing Team today announced the discontinuation of its partnership with Claudio Corti and that Toni Elías will replace him in the last four races of the 2012 campaign.

The team issued a brief statement Tuesday announcing the rider change, but did not specify the reasons. Corti is currently 10th in the overall standings with 74 points and has just one podium finish this season, when he finished second in Le Mans.

Elías, who split with the Mapfre Aspar Moto2 Team earlier this year, after which he substituted for the injured Héctor Barberá in the Pramac Racing Team, will return to action in Japan on board the team’s Kalex machine. In an exclusive interview with motogp.com he said: "I am grateful to the Italtrans team for this opportunity. I am very motivated ahead of these four races. I have not set any goals, as I will not promise anything I cannot stick to, but when I get on a motorcycle I always give 100%."

Although the agreement with Italtrans is limited to the current season, the 2010 Moto2 World Champion does not rule out a possible extension of the association, whilst admitting that talks with other teams for 2013 are on-going: "The agreement is for these last four races, then we'll see. I’m in contact with other teams, but everything is still a little uncertain. I hope that between Japan and Malaysia things will be a little clearer. I have not closed any doors - I could run in Moto2 but also with a CRT."
